Addiction is a disease caused by both environmental and genetic factors. The genetics of addiction are still being investigated, but scientists are convinced that addiction is inherited polygenically. Studies have been that investigated the impact addictive substances had on rats with different genotypes. Using information gathered through this tests and similar ones scientist have been able to produce genetic tests that can predict a person's susceptibility to addiction.
